Who Qualifies for ICR?

Medicare Part B covers ICR program services for beneficiaries who have experienced one or more of the following:

  • An acute myocardial infarction within the preceding 12 months
  • A coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Current stable angina pectoris
  • Heart valve repair or replacement
  • Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or coronary stenting
  • A heart or heart-lung transplant

The Science

The Pritikin Program meets the rigorous research and scientific outcome requirements necessary for Medicare approval as an ICR program.

More than 100 studies, all published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, have shown documented results in reducing risk factors for heart disease and other conditions.

While some factors affecting health, such as age, gender, and family history, are not controllable, the Pritikin Program is proven to prevent, control, or reverse risk factors for a multiplicity of diseases, ailments, and conditions including:

Within 2 to 3 weeks of starting the Pritikin Program, overweight adults lost on average 7 to 11 pounds.

A follow-up study of 64 heart patients found that 68% of those who had eliminated their angina (chest pain) with the Pritikin Program were still angina-free five years later.
